"The Secret Garden" Theatre Poster
Creative Direction, Logo Development, Graphic Design
The poster design for one of the first of the children's plays for the 2011-2012 theatre season was for The Secret Garden. After brainstorming with the director for the play, I developed the logo design and decided to use the keyhole in the garden's hidden door as the main visual for the poster, using a concept where the outside world was dreary and lacked color, and the garden's world was in vibrant color. I used a stock photo for the girl inside the garden and another of old wood for the door, then created the keyhole in Photoshop and Illustrator.
"Eurydice" Theatre Poster
Creative Direction, Logo Development, Graphic Design
The story of Orpheus and Eurydice, the tragic Greek lovers, follows Orpheus on his quest to retrieve Eurydice from the Underworld. The poster design features the lone Orpheus traveling across a river in the moonlight, heading toward the Underworld. The logo design incorporated a bit of word play, portraying the steps between the letters "U" and "I", or you and I, the path between Eurydice in the Underworld and Orpheus on the surface.
"Elephant's Graveyard" Theatre Poster
Creative Direction, Logo Development, Graphic Design
With a darker entry for this theatre season, Elephant's Graveyard portrays the aftermath of the Sparks World Famous Shows circus and the tragedy on September 11, 1916 in Erwin, Tennessee that led to the hanging execution of the circus' main attraction, an African elephant named Mary. The poster design was simple, with abstract and simplified circus elements and the logo incorporated circus-styled fonts.
"Othello" Theatre Poster
Creative Direction, Logo Development, Graphic Design
For the Othello poster, the concept was intensionally simple, playing off the black and white motifs from the play. The logo design was created with a black side and a white side to continue the same design ideas. To keep an aire of the military aspect of the play, the use of an "army" type green was incorporated as well.
